McDonald Creek Water System

Size and number of connections

The system services 89 active connections.

Location

The system is located in the Allen Subdivision, in the Village of Kaslo. Kaslo is within RDCK Electoral Area D.

Source

In May 2002, the MacDonald Creek water system intake was damaged beyond repair by a landslide.  This event necessitated an emergency connection to the Village of Kaslo’s water system. McDonald Creek users continue to receive water from the Kaslo system, which derives source water from Kemp Creek.

System description

This system was rebuilt in 2003-2004. It became a RDCK service in 2004.

Treatment

Water delivered to McDonald Creek households, as with all households served by the Village of Kaslo’s water system, is treated. Kaslo’s water treatment plant uses chlorination as a disinfection method.

Storage

The McDonald Creek system consists only of a distribution network and does not have any storage capacity.

Distribution system

The system consists of 1.7 kilometres of PVC pipe. This infrastructure remains in very good condition.

Fire-fighting

The system is designed to provide adequate fire protection and includes 7 hydrants.

Significant issues

To reduce administrative, operation, and maintenance costs, the McDonald Creek system could benefit over the long term by amalgamating with the Village of Kaslo system.

Plans for future upgrades

No upgrades to this system are planned for the near future.

Governance

This system is currently owned and operated by the RDCK.
