| Floodplains, Alluvial Fans, & Geotechnical HazardsThis information is intended to assist the general public by explaining the requirements for construction within a floodplain, alluvial fan or other geotechnical hazard. Reference to Floodplain Management Bylaw No. 2080 is recommended. With the adoption of Floodplain Management Bylaw 2080, 2009, the setback for construction for the purposes of flood protection on Kootenay and Slocan lakes has increased from 7.5 meters from the natural boundary to 15.0 meters from the natural boundary to meet Provincial Guidelines and requirements under the Local Government Act. All other requirements have remained the same. In January, 2007 staff from Columbia Basin Trust, FortisBC, BC Hydro, Columbia Power Corporation, Ministry of Environment, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Environment Canada, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Fish & Wildlife Service and the Regionald District of Central Kootenay held an information session on Kootenay Lake Levels.
