CRESTON & DISTRICT COMMUNITY COMPLEX

FACILITY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT

November 28, 2008

The Arena Changeroom

The parapet was formed, poured, and finished in these last two weeks. The embankment was backfilled to the changerooms and compacted and fill was added to the south of the changerooms for the future emergency stairwell. The block work inside the 6 changerooms is at about 80% completed.  Mayday Electric and Figs Plumbing are diligently working to ensure the electrical and piping are installed along with each block layer that Brick Kon lays.

Heritage Roofing outof Nelson is going great guns to lay down the layers of foam, tar, and roofing membrane  before the forecasted snow this weekend.

Civic Work

The apron outside the Thunder Cat Changeroom was formed and poured this last week and the changeroom hallway is now back to normal.

CURLING RINK

The behind the scenes organization for the curling rink slab work laid the foundation for the quantum progress leap of these last two weeks. Dean from Cimco installed the hangers for the heating headers. The underslab thermal lines are laid and have been tied into the heating header and zip-tied to perpendicular rebar.  A thermos well has been installed to the end of the original 4 slabs for a thermostat to assist in regulating temperature. The heating lines were gently covered and are currently being compacted in preparation for the installation or the brine chairs and lines which arrived last week.

Jack hammering has commenced on the south walkway and a structural cross beam has been installed in preparation for the HSS columns which will run floor to ceiling.

Aquatic Facility area

NW Concrete out of Cranbrook is blitzing the newly excavated location of the upcoming aquatic centre with forms and tarps. They are currently working on forming the basement and exterior foundation of the new structure. Form walls are built and ready to be assembled as soon as the base foundation forming has been completed.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO SEE HAPPEN WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS:

  • Roof and Block work completed in the Arena Changerooms
  • Brine cooling system installed and pressurized in the Curling Rink
  • Concrete poured for the basement and exterior structure of the Aquatic Centre

This project is funded by The Canada-British Columbia Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund, the residents of the Creston Valley, and donations.
