| CRESTON & DISTRICT COMMUNITY COMPLEX FACILITY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT February 6, 2009 Aquatic Centre Digging, forming and pouring has been the order of business in the aquatic area as the construction is moving around to the front of the building. Part of the focus will be on forming and developing the area where the old curling entrance was—this will be the new main stairway and elevator. The large concrete room in the top photo is the basement mechanical room and will house pool pumps and motors as well as an electrical room.
Hockey Changerooms Inside the hockey changerooms, space is at a premium as the various trades work together to complete the addition. Heating and ventilation are installing ducts and gas lines while plumbers are prepping for fixture installation. The sprinklers are also being installed and the painters have gotten a base and topcoat on the ceiling so all the upper mechanical and electrical installs can take place.
Curling Rink
Inside the curling rink, the trench steel trench covers are completed and work has started on the removable walkways between the columns. Windows are washed and surfaces wiped down and the refrigeration contractor will be in the week of Feb 9 to fill the curling floor with brine and check the system with the expectation of starting the refrigeration plant towards the end of the week. The hope is that the rubber walkway flooring will arrive on site in time for installation before the ice goes in. Outside the former curling rink entrance, local contractor Groeny’s Excavating has created a huge mound of soil and a rather large hole as the base for the footings is laid out and leveled for the forming crew from NW Construction. The photo at upper left is a detail showing the opening that water will be squeegeed into once the ice comes out at the end of each season. There is one at the end of each curling sheet.
