CRESTON & DISTRICT COMMUNITY COMPLEX

FACILITY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT

February 20, 2009

Aquatic Centre

Another significant concrete pour this week placed more footings close to the main entrance of the building and included the base for the elevator and stairs (upper right photo). The back wall of the pool mechanical room was also poured which has a couple of door openings incorporated into it. The weather has been cooperating with only light frosts which are easily offset by tarping the forms prior to pouring.

Hockey Changerooms

The mechanical trades are the biggest group in the arena changerooms as they add hundreds of feet of copper, steel and ductwork. There will also be a temporary 3 inch high density PVC waterline run from the back of the building under the bleachers to the new changerooms to service the 7 rooms. The future doorway to the Thundercat room has been cut out and the prep has started for the emergency exit stairs. The bottom photo shows the new skate flooring ready for installation once the other trades are out.

Curling Rink

It was an exciting moment as the first water was sprayed on the new curling floor in preparation for the Public Grand Opening Friday Feb 27 at 4 pm. Even as the floor was being painted, the flooring contractor was finishing up placing the rubber flooring and nosings making this curling rink the envy of other clubs. New scoreboards were created and mounted and the finishing touches put on the header trench cover. Probably the single most significant change is the small amount of prep time required on this laser leveled concrete slab as compared to the old sand base curling floor.
