| CRESTON & DISTRICT COMMUNITY COMPLEX FACILITY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT December 12, 2008 The Arena Changerooms The arena changerooms are progressing well with the masons finishing up the upper courses on the walls, doorways and other time consuming detail work. Lots of block cutting is required at this point. As part of the arena changeroom addition, the concession range hood fan outlet and vent pipe had to be relocated above the new roof and that work is currently being completed. Heritage Roofing of Nelson has completed the roof above the changerooms and the flashing is almost complete around the edges.
CURLING RINK The curling rink slab is nearing the concrete pour date with the brine lines currently being placed in the support chairs. The above left photo shows the pipe sitting in the chairs as well as the return loop which directs the brine back to the return header at the other end of the slab. The hockey arena header pipes were cut and relocated to make room for the curling header pipes which involved shutting the ice plant down and working around the clock 24 hours to insure the hockey ice did not melt. A heavy steel mesh will be laid on top of the brine lines to complete the “sandwich” prior to concrete. Just under the chairs and rebar is 2 layers of heavy poly plastic sheeting, then 2 offset layers of 1-1/2 high density Styrofoam for insulation sitting on top of compacted and leveled sand base. Also shown in these photos is the new walkway at the south end of the rink which, along with the other walkways, will be covered with a rubber flooring material.
Aquatic Facility area The aquatic facility area has seen a lot of action this past 2 weeks – the much of the footings have been poured, stripped and wall forming placed on top which will create the basement area as well as some of the outside walls. Column forms have been placed and plumbed with many of them poured already. Prior to the walls being poured, the mechanical trades will insert sleeves for piping to pass through as well as any piping within the walls. Electrical trades will also be working within the formwork to locate and place conduit, boxes and other requirements defined by the engineered drawings.
