| Fire Services9-1-1 The Regional District’s Fire Protection & Emergency Services department coordinates Fire Protection with 18 separate services. Of these services, 6 are contracts with Municipal fire departments and 1 with a neighboring Regional District. The remaining 11 fire services have 17 fire halls. All RDCK fire departments are operated on a volunteer basis, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition to providing fire protection, Regional District of Central Kootenay firefighters are well known for their strong contribution to specialty services such as Jaws of Life extrication, First Responder programs, Confined Space rescue, Swift water and still water rescue. Many of our volunteers have received recognition from the Federal and Provincial Government for Long Service and are also recipients of Federal, Provincial and International commendations for bravery, meritorious achievements and life saving.
