Will my neighbour find out if I am reporting on him/her?

  • This is a big concern and has the element of retaliation.  Although complaints must be made in writing, complainants identity is kept strictly confidential.
  • Contact information is required in the event to clarify a complaint, obtain more information and file progress.
  • If you are concerned about your privacy, please contact our Bylaw Enforcement Officer.

How do I know if you can help me?

  • If you are having a problem or a concern and if you think it falls in one of the above-mentioned bylaws, please call our Bylaw Enforcement Officer.
  • Your information will be reviewed and you will be advised whether or not enforcement action can be sought.

I am having a problem with a dog in my neighbourhood.  Can you help?

  • Noise from a barking dog is covered in the Noise Bylaw.
  • The RDCK offers Animal Control services in defined areas of Electoral Areas 'I', 'J' and 'K'.
  • If you are having a problem with what you consider to be a "vicious dog" contact our Bylaw Enforcement Officer to find out what Provincial Legislation applies.

How do I report a noise complaint if I live in Area 'F'?

  • We require two independant complaints about the same noise in order to act on our bylaw.

What happens when I make a formal complaint?

  • Once a complaint has been submitted in writing, you will be contacted by our Bylaw Enforcement Officer to confirm details and clarification.
  • If the complaint requies action, the Bylaw Enforcement Officer begins the process of trying to reach a solution to achieve compliance to the bylaw.
  • The most important step involves you the public to make a formal complaint.
  • All complaints remain confidential.
  • If a Municipal Ticket Information Ticket is disputed, it may be necessary for the complainant(s) to testify in a Court of Law.
